Lone Star Flyers is an alliance of independent certified
flight instructors working together to provide a higher level
of service and instructional quality to our customers.
We are neither a traditional flight school nor a fixed base
operator (FBO). Instead, we combine the advantages of
both.
What We're Not...
The traditional large flight school offers the advantage of a standardized, high quality
training curriculum. But this advantage often comes at a
price: an impersonal atmosphere in which separating you
from your money (usually lots of it) may seem to be a higher
priority than helping you achieve your aviation goals.
At the other end of the spectrum is the independent
instructor who teaches in his or her own airplane. Such
an instructor will usually offer a high level of flexibility
and attention to your individual needs. But with an
independent instructor, you have no assurance (other than,
hopefully, the instructor's integrity and professionalism)
that he or she will provide high-quality, up-to-date
instruction. And you have all your eggs in one
basket: if your instructor becomes ill, goes on
vacation, moves or takes another job mid-way through your
training--or if you just don't like him!--you're on your own
to find another instructor with whom you're
comfortable.
Our Approach
By sharing our knowledge, experience and resources while
remaining independent of any one flight school, the instructors
of Lone Star Flyers are able to offer you a better flight
training experience. We have a combined total of more
than 30,000 hours and 50 years of piloting time
in over 30 different aircraft makes and
models. We work together in developing curricula,
seminars, and other training materials. We share ideas
and jointly tackle challenges. And we insist on the
highest levels of quality instruction and customer service. We take seriously
the trust you place in us. We know that we have an
enormous professional and ethical responsibility to give you the
best flight instruction possible, and to ensure that you are a
safe and highly competent pilot. We strive to make your
training interesting and enjoyable, adapting lessons to your
individual learning style as necessary to maximize your
results. At the same time, we maintain uniformly high
standards of performance through the use of
standardized curriculum and "progress checks" with a
different Lone Star Flyers instructor--helping to objectively
make certain that your training is comprehensive and
complete.
Safety
is paramount in all we do. We are not
risk-takers: we firmly believe in the adage that it's
always better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air,
than in the air wishing you were on the ground. Therefore,
we don't hesitate to cancel a planned flight, either before
departure or while it's in progress, if there's any question
that weather conditions or equipment concerns might make the
flight unsafe. Moreover, our training courses go far
beyond just teaching you flight skills and book knowledge.
They will also give you critical aeronautical decision-making
and risk assessment skills so that you'll be safe when you're
flying on your own. We believe you deserve attentive,
professional service. The FAA evaluates only the
teaching and technical skills of flight instructor
applicants--not their appreciation for the importance of good
customer service. You've probably heard the horror stories
of flight instructors who don't return telephone calls, are late
for or miss flight lesson appointments, arrive unprepared for
lessons, and generally don't seem to care about you and your
personal goals. We have no tolerance for this kind of
unprofessional behavior. We treat you as a long-term
customer, not a student, so that your flight training experience
is as positive on the ground as it is in the air.
We
are passionate about the joy and beauty of flight, and we
try hard to share that passion with our customers. Sure,
learning to fly is hard work. But we want to be sure that
you never lose sight of why you started flying in the first
place: it's pure, unadulterated fun! So don't be
surprised if we offer to take over the controls so you can fully
appreciate a sunset from 5,000 feet, or if we suggest a relaxing
flight to an out-of-the-way airport for lunch when you're
frustrated by a learning plateau. Experience a Higher
Standard
Whether you are learning to fly,
training for an advanced rating,
transitioning to a different aircraft, or returning
to flying after many years, the instructors of Lone Star
Flyers would be pleased to help you achieve your aviation
goals. We invite you to contact us,
and experience for yourself an innovative new standard of
excellence in flight instruction.
